Join Carnegie Mellon Rowing

2020 Spring Recruitment

Interested in joining our team?

If you are a current undergraduate student, graduate student, faculty, or staff member, you are eligible to join our team! We accept new team members at the start of both the fall and spring semesters. If you’re a high school student interested in joining our team, please note that we are not involved in the admission process of CMU, but would still love to hear from you! For any questions about the team or how to join, please contact our Recruitment Chair, Hugh Cheon, at recruitment@tartancrew.org for more information.

What makes rowing so special?

You will never be a part of another sport that is more committed to camaraderie and teamwork. In order for the boat to move quickly down the race course, every single person in that boat has to be working together to make that happen. The skills you learn in this sport are not solely limited to your physical abilities, but are incredibly applicable in your daily life. Still not convinced? Reach out to us and let’s chat!

Why should you join our team?

We’re just a bunch of nerds who like to move boats fast together. :)
You’ll get a whole new group of friends from different backgrounds and varying interests!
Studying at a university with a significant stress culture can be difficult, but having an outlet that doesn’t involve academics can be an incredibly useful tool in dealing with stress. Having friends outside of your major can also be an incredibly useful way to relieve stress from classes.
We row on the Allegheny River, providing a much needed break from the campus environment and exploration into less known but beautiful sites of Pittsburgh.
We have a lot of fun!!!

Find Us On Campus

Most of our winter training is in Skibo Gym on CMU campus. We use the erg room for erging practices and currently we also go to the UC gym for weightlifting training.

Find Us at the Boathouse

Our boathouse is located at Three Rivers Association - Washington's Landing. We usually have a team run from campus to the boathouse and have our rowing practices there.
